Frequently Asked Questions

How can I Obtain an MBA degree from Carleton University while living and working in Iran?
As a result of a contract signed in August 2000, Qeshm Institute of Higher Education (QIHE) and Carleton University have arranged for eight of the ten courses required for the MBA degree to be taught in Iran. Professors from Canada will fly to Iran to give the eight courses for the MBA, begining in November each year. When four of these courses are completed, all students in the MBA program will fly to Canada to complete two research courses at Carleton University for a period of three months. Following these two courses, students will return to Iran to complete the final four courses, again taught by Carleton University professors.

Why should I take the MBA program in Iran and not in Canada?
Cost and convenience. Most executive MBA programs in Canada have raised their fee by 10 to 15% this year moving in the range of 45 to 50,000 US$ while Us programes run around 75 to 100,000 US$. It also costs about $15,000 CDN ($10,000 US) each year for a single person to live in Ottawa, about $24,000 CDN ($16,000 US) per year for a family of four. Canadian goverment regulations prohibit international students from working off the campus, and on-campus scholarships and assistantships are rare. So an international student studying in Canada must expect to survive on saving alone. This has become unaffordable for many good international students. By offering the MBA in Iran, we provide an opportunity for students to receive a Master`s degree from an internationally recognized Canadian business school more quickly and at greatly reduced cost. MBA courses are given one at a time in intensive sessions approximately two weeks, with about four weeks in between courses. So students can return to work and home with minimal disruption. Yet the program does provide one summer of study in Canada in order to expose students to the Canadian business environment.

What is the language of instruction?
The language if instruction is English. All lectures will be given in English. All papers and assignments must be completed in English.

Is an English language skills exam required for entrance to the MBA program?
Yes. Carleton University has developed its own English language test: the Carleton Academic English Language (CAEL) exam. The CAEL is a substitute for the TOEFL exam, and is considered a superior predictor of academic performance in graduate courses.
The CAEL is normally given in Tehran several times a year. All applicants for the MBA program whose first language is not English must pass the CAEL exam before they can be admitted to the program. For more information click here.

How long must I study to complete the MBA degree?

When will I be admitted to the MBA program and when will I be considered as a Carleton University student?
